Shroud Drilled and Tapped at Factory?

How can I tell if the shroud has been drilled and tapped at the factory?

Do you mean as opposed to an after sale job done by a local smith?  Assuming the smith does a good job, I guess you would have to have spent some time looking at factory issue ones so as to be able to spot the difference, if any.  I have two 445 shrouds that were factory drilled.  The factory put plug screws in the holes, so that might be a difference.  Of course some one might toss the plug screws when they put mounts on.  Or there might be no plugs if the factory installed a mount.

When I ordered my 10" 445 drilled and tapped from the factory it came with no plug screws, when it came it did not have a front site none at all no holes cut for it. I sent it back and had them cut for the front site. I wanted to be able to shoot it either way.

The scope mount makers have the hole pattern from the factory so I do not think you can tell who did the work.

I think the front sight has always been optional.  If a shroud is dedicated to having a scope I think it looks better without the front sight.  Also, if you have no front sight, you are forced to a scope, so no use for plugs.
