Just got to thinkin again. Looked on brownells site, they use to carry #1 barreled actions. I don't see them listed anymore. Does anybody here know? Are their any wholesalers carring, the #1 barreled action? Or don't ruger produce just barreled action anymore? :? On

They are still shown in the latest catalog. Their availability has always been on and off. They manufacture a specific model when requests/orders justify. The last one I ordered Brownells said it would be at least 12-18 months but due to a cancelation I got it in under 6 months. I would suggest a call to Brownells might clarify the situation.

You might try some on-line sellers or your local dealer and pick up a full rifle. I bought a new No.1 last year because my dealer could get the full rifle cheaper than he could get the barreled action (which was to come from Brownells). I'm not sure how that works, I suspect Brownells markup is higher and not as flexible as someone with an inventory. Even though you may not want the full rifle, it may be cheaper. My dealer even had to order the rifle from the lower 48, so there was the regular order fee, shipping and handling and markup. Sometimes if they sit on the shelf for awhile, you can get them cheaper.
Just a few thoughts.

YJ, you're right I just received an email from Brownells. Their suggested retail is $633. I know I can special order from my dealer for less. On

The dealers wholesale price on that No.1 is considerably less than the suggested retail price you were quoted...

Ya, I realize that gn69. A swag ( scientific wild a$$ quess ), that wholesale prices would be about 450-475, but then you need the wood. Really not any cheaper than buying a complete rifle. But then I already have some stock material, and I was going to junk the barrel. Also it sounds like a wait on barreled actions. What I would really like to see, is ruger supplying just actions for the smith trade. I just sorta nitpicin the pricing thing, cause the last #1 I bought last CHRISTmas was far less than MSR. On

The dealer I've been working with actually got the full rifle, brand new, cheaper than he can get the barreled actions from Brownells. The swag that you mentioned is just a bit more than I paid for a complete rifle.

I have to admit, I was surprised. But there are some really good deals out there if your dealer will spend a few minutes searching for them. Most of the dealers up here will just buy from one or two distributers, while that was definitely the best way to go for years, it may not be the best situation in all instances these days with the internet at your fingertips. A dealer in one part of the country may have a rifle sitting on the shelf for years because of an unsuitable chambering for area. But it may be just what someone is looking for in another part of the country. One dealer gets rid of a gun that is costing him money in overhead and inventory and the other dealer gets to sell a rifle that hasn't cost him a dime in overhead.
Just depends on how much research your dealer is willing to do.

Onesonek,
Have you considered buying a good used #1 in any caliber, and just having it rebarreled, or rebored? Most the decent #1's I see at gun shows, go about $400-$475, and that's a whole lot less than an action, or a complete new gun.
