Ooops! (powder mixup)
« on: July 08, 2007, 05:18:04 AM »
While putting away the powder after measuring out charges for my Independence Day shooting, I accidentally put about about a half-ounce of leftover FFg into the wrong can, containing approximately 13-14 ounces of Fg.

I have the can marked and set aside, and I have plenty of the Fg powder so it's not an immediate problem.

Should I be concerned about this small amount, or should I just use the powder as I normally would. Could the smaller granules be screened out?

Weather on the 4th was not good, but never turned bad enough to prevent me from shooting. And the fireworks display that had been iffy due to the previous ban (from the wildfires) and then the nasty weather, went off (pun) without a hitch.

I think the best answer would be... "I don't know". At 10-15 bucks for a can of powder and several thousand to replace a cannon (assuming no trip to the hospital is required and you still have enough body parts to be rebuilding it), why risk it? The smaller granules may settle to the bottom and concentrate themselves in the last charge.

It can always be used to make quickmatch, or some other non-critical use.

I agree with Rickk, why chance it?

Setting it aside for blanks is of course the safest.  In reality, using with live rounds you would never notice the difference just as long as your charge weight is within reason.
