Switched to a scope
« on: April 02, 2007, 07:52:03 AM »
Nothing wrong with the stacked red dot I had but it was made for a faster xbow than what I have so at longer distances it was off a bit with the 40 yard dot. Said I wanted a scope and a internet friend offered me one for a good price  a Excaliber Drop Zone which is perfect for my Excaliber Wolverine as that scope was made for the lower powered Excaliber xbows. Now I wish I could just try it out as I am recovering from Carpal Tunnel surgery and will not be able to c-o-c-k my xbow for a while.  Looking forward to healing up and trying it out.  Jim

What is their reasoning for that? Can you use red dots or just a peep and pin?

I would like to know who makes up these dumb ass rules in state DNR regs? In WI you cannot use a scope over 1x (zero Magnification)  on a muzzle loader Yet you can use a modern inline so why not? DUMB DUMB DUMB  ??? ??? ???

somebody should tell these guys who come up with ''rules'' to give their head a shake-archery ,be it bow or crossbow has a range of about 40 yards, and shot placement is critical. What idiot would decide we need a ''rule'' to make a clean shot a bit more dificult- possibly resulting in a wounded or unrecovered animal. I deliberately chose a crossbow for its inherant accuracy -for that exact reason-I don't want to wound an animal
They don't have ''rules'' limiting the power of rifle scopes.....makes you wonder if these guys are even hunters

Most all the wardens that enforce the rules usually are hunters and fishing  too as is most of the guys who work in the field like the game managers and forestry and fishing managers but I think some of the top jobs go to some college type that never stepped into the woods and does not have a clue. If they would listen to their field workers they would know more about it.

''college types who never stepped into the field''-precisely-and once I commented to a friend who was a professional forester that I came to the conclusion after walking up a valley on a spring bear hunt, and observing an grown back old cut, that they could have harvested the trees on the slopes, but left 50% of the trees in the gulleys to prevent washouts, he said-''we just paid for a huge study that basically was exactly what you said-but some of these guys have never set foot in the bush and used their eyes-all they do is work on ''models'' and in offices.

I think the same goes for game laws-the rational behind some of them is rediculous [ie allowing modern weapons but disallowing modern sighting systems that would help to ensure clean kills]
