Recoil Pad For Browning model 1886
« on: June 10, 2003, 04:32:43 PM »
Hello friends,
Is anyone aware of a company that makes excellent recoil pads for the Browning 1886? Is it best to let a gunsmith install it due to the shape of the butt plate?

Thanks for your help in advance,

I had a Pachmayer 1/2" rifle pad installed on a Winchester (Miroku) 1886 by a gunsmith who "boiled" the pad in water to form fit it to the contour of the stock.  It worked very well.

Rifleman, I just went ahead and bit the bullet and got me a replacement buttstock with a thick recoil pad. It wasn't cheap and it took me a while to fine tune the inletting to make it fit, but it sure makes that ole slammer more comfy to shoot.
