machining question
« on: June 20, 2007, 04:10:50 PM »
i am in the process of building a golf ball scale mountain howitzer. i am ready to cut the taper on the outside of the barrel.  i have a taper cutting jig that that clamps onto the ways of my lathe but have absolutly no idea how to set it up any help would be really nice.

i am also planning to make my truninons then weld them on, how do i get the radius to the barrel correct with the taper?

The trunnions go into pockets milled into the barrel.
Can't help you with setting up a taper attachment.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.

What type of lathe is it?  Maybe post the question at Practical Machinist along with the type and model of lathe..
