I took my "new" Broomhandle out and fired it for the first time. The ammo used was new PRVI in .30 Mauser. The gun functioned perfectly, but I found two spent cartridges had pierced primers. Thinking I had a pressure problem I stopped shooting. In reading my reloading books, they suggested the problem could be a rough firing pin tip. Sure enough, that was the problem. I smoothed the tip with a stone.
The C96 was a great deal of fun to shoot and I did most firing with the shoulder stock attached. Being hollow, the stock sort of echoed with each shot. I would compare this experience to mounting a pistol on the end of a violin, placing to your shoulder, and firing.
