Thanks Graybeard and Ed
« on: May 26, 2003, 05:32:50 AM »
:D Thanks to this forum and all the posts. I have a Contender pistol and three barrels. I wanted to move up to more power. The only move was the Encore. Never had a carbine, I wanted to try one. I went with one piece at a time, got the frame and started to save for the barrel (It was driveing me nuts). I had a frame and can't do anything with it. I went to Ed's and oredered 26 inch bull in a 22-250. Working with Ed was great, I recomend him. Went to the range with 2 boxes of Winchester 45 grain spitser amo.
Shot a 2"-2 1/2" not too good, I was thinking about all the guys on this site the were shooting 1/2 MOA. I was going to ask for help on this forum, but all my questions were answered. Thanks to the guy that used washer in the forend. I used the washers and dropped the group to 1 1/2" at 100 yds. I went to Seve at W and got his hanger bar, the forend was 10 weeks out. I inleted the factory forend.
Before I did all this I shot this thing for about 400 rounds. My trigger was not as bad as some of the posts.
I free floated the forend and installed Mike's #6 trigger spring.
Went to the range and shot. .732" with Remington bulk 55gr. FMJ, 36gr Varget and Fed 210M, OAL 2.450. This was a suprise my bulk bullets out shot the Match bullets. My second good group was Hornady 52 Match 39 W760 same primers and OAL. It shot .924"  five shot groups.
Not 1/2 MOS yet but I am still working on it. Next I will work with OAL. I am so long now that my shells will not fit in other rifles. I hope that I can reach the lands with bullet still in the neck.
By the way my #6 trigger is great.
I am going to glass the forend. I might get a custom barrel, knowing that the Encore rifle will shoot.
Thanks guys this forum is great.
