My VZ-24 25-06
« on: November 25, 2006, 01:53:53 PM »
My Mauser VZ-24 25-06 is pretty much complete.  Other than being a little heavy, I'm real happy with it.

I have it on good authority that the telepromter is writing a stern letter.

Midway.  It's a Boyd's JRS Classic.  I really like the looks and feel of it.

Duckbill - I have the same Boyd's stock hanging around waiting for me to begin dooing something on my VZ-24/52.  I just hope mine turns out as nicely as yours has.  Mikey.

I'm sure it will turn out great, Mike.  My next project will be a 257Rob and I'll probably go with the same stock.  I wish I had the funds to get started on that one :( .

Duckbill - the 257 Roberts is a great caliber.  I have been thinking about going with a 6.5-06 but really don't know if I want to get into shooting and reloading a wildcat.  Mikey.

Did you have to modify the VZ 24 action to accomodate '06 length rounds?  I was under the impression that the VZ was too short for anything longer than 7x57 or 8x57 length rounds.

No mods needed.  The '06 length cases fit perfect.  The Czech VZ-24 is a full length action.  The Yugo M24/47 is an intermadiate action.  Could that be what you are referring to?

Duckbill: Great looking Mauser.  What kind of trigger/safety are you using?

Thanks,
I put a Bold Optima with side safety on it.  It has performed great, so far.  You may have noticed from the pics that I left the orignal mauser safety on it.  It's one of those "piece of mind" things.  It will only operate to the middle position, but it's there nonetheless.

Looks like a dandy rifle to me. I like the .25'06 also. Those Mausers sure carry nice with the two piece mounts. I like being able to get my thumb under the scope.

Nice looking bolt handle. How did you do it?  What make is it, if you used an aftermarket, weld on type?

I'd love to take credit for it, but I can't.  The previous owner had the bolt bent.  A buddy of mine at work fabricated one very similar to mine.  He used a piece of steel round stock and a ball bearing.  He cut of the original and welded it one and then polished it.  It came out real nice.  He started with one of those "non-weld" kind you can buy.  You drill and tap in your bolt and it comes with an allen head screw.  It really looked kind of "cheezy".

We also used a large press to fabricate a "butterknife" style.  That came out real nice.

I have to seat my bullets deep enough to where they do not catch up in the magazine...Once I get the OAL right there is no feeding problem...I had the same problem on a DOU action that I rebarreled to .280 Rem.
