I"ve never used a Helle, but they do look nice. The Scandi's I've used are a couple of Mora's and one I made myself out of a Norweigan laminated blade.  There is currently almost a "religon" concerning these style knives amongst certain of the Woodcraft/Bushcraft/Wilderness survival school folks who've learned their craft from Mors Kochanski and his brethern.  I liked mine, but never got that excited about the scandi grind.  A good place to discuss these knives would be over at http://www.britishblades.com.  They are quite popular over in the UK and Europe.

Thanks. I am impressed with the performance of these knives. I also have several Mora knives. Can't beat them for the money. I will try that other site as well.

My son just bought a beauty HELLE in Germany, 65 Euros.   He will likely carry it deer hunting in England, so I'll pass on a report.  I have been using Mora laminates for about 60 years.  Still have one that I bought for less than a dollar when I was a boy.

Anyone try the LEE VALLEY laminate blades?

Hi from Norway. If you like helle, you should check out a company called Brusletto. (www.brusletto.no) The same traditional laminated blade, but a few different styles. Their model "Hunter" is sort of a classic in these parts of the woods. To see the knives, click on "Produktene".

I was reading Norwegian pretty well, but gave up when I realized that one little click on the British flag made reading a lot easier!  In English!

I will be expecting an Eklund Damascus blade from Brisa, when my son visits from England.  This weeks special: - 69 Euros

PS;  27 Feb 07;  Sun & Air has the blade.  3.5 inch.  Maybe a neck knife?

I'm partial to the Brusletto and Mora knives but the Helle are in the same league.  My father in law is a cousin of the folks who own Brusletto.  He has a few nice blades that are no longer in production as does my spouse.  An elder Norwegian cousin of my father in law my some hand forged blades that he send over a few years back and then he and my mother in law finished them off with handles and sheaths.  Very nice knives I think they willl pass on to the grandkids.

I have 2 Brusletto, one that gets used a bit and one for dress up.

Many Mora knives, just can't get a better $8 to $10 dollar knife and use it and beat it, and misplace it and work it and it still can be sharpened and used.

Try Rageweedforge.com for all these knives!  Ragnar is great to work with and buy from.

Great site for Nordic blades, fitting and kits   www.ragweedforge.com/

Ragnar has all the great makes and blades at more reasonable prices than most of his competition. Just a great site to go through..one can learn much about blades, Nordic history and other interesting cutlery facts.

Ragnar is indeed a great guy to deal with.  I've bought a few things over the years from him, and his service is top notch.
Just bought a Helle filet knife from him for my Brother's birthday and it seemed a nice enough knife; although a bit crudely made for the price.  I convexed the edge, and it does take a nice one; which is the most important aspect.

I love the Norse slogan on Ragnar's forge!  "A knifeless man is a lifeless man!"

I received my Eklund damascus blade.  A beauty!  Now to find some time to put a grip on it.  I think I will practice on a tiny MORA laminate blade first.
