I have a 1905 police positive colt and was wondering if shooting p+ ammo was safe

Probably not safe, that is a very old gun. Unless it is 38/44 heavy duty, sounds like its not though.
I would steer clear of +P unless its a modern gun that is specifically listed as being capable of +P loads or .357.

I wouldn't risk messing up a classic. If you're going to shoot it, just stick with plain jane .38 specials.
