7-30 waters
« on: March 27, 2007, 06:38:46 PM »
Hello Guys, I am new  and posted a similar question on the Marlin lever gun section. I am interested in making a 7-30 waters. I was considering converting a Marlin 30-30 into a 7 Waters but it seems that it would be a very expensive job. My second choice would be to buy an NEF 30-30 and have a new barrel put on it. My question is simply, who makes replacement barrels for these guns and also who or if the trigger can be adjusted on these guns.

Thanks

The triggers can be polished (see the FAQ's) but there is no adjustment.  Unfortunately, there are no aftermarket barrels available.  Best thing to do is buy a barrel, say a 223, and have it re-bored and chambered.  Quick and mac have had it done in other caliber, with excellent results.

The H&R factory will adjust the trigger for you if you ask.  I don't know if there is anyone who is making barrels for these things, I think the last one is gone now.  The round is a fairly low pressure one, so you may be able to get away with stubbing off a barrel, threading a new one in and cambering it for the 7-30 waters you want.  All you would need to do is find a reamer for the chamber.  Larry

Welcome to GBO! As was said, there's no aftemarket barrel source, if you're not dead set on the 7-30, just get a 7mm-08 Handi, they're great shooters and real popular in a Handi. A rechambered/rebored .223 barrel will set you back about $250-$300, plus the cost of the rifle, a 7mm-08 will cost ~$225.

If you're interested in the stubbing that Larry mentioned, see his "30 Carbine Project" down the page, a very good read and well documented with pics. ;)

Trigger work isn't hard with just a few basic tools, you can find that info in the FAQs and Help sticky if you haven't already, or as Larry said, H&R will do a free trigger job if the pull is over 5lbs, they'll charge for it if it's less than 5lbs already. Best time to get that done is when a frame is sent in for an accessory barrel, otherwise, I'd just do it myself, they're not that hard, many, many folks here have done their own for the first time.

I just had to have a 25-35, Little brother 7-30 waters bought a new
223 NEF sent barrel to a Gunsmith, end cost was about 700 dollars.
That,s with scope and finished rifle. It was what I wanted my money.
So I am happy ol' dog . Marv.
