First group from new HM2
« on: March 13, 2007, 05:20:17 PM »
This is more of a field report than a range report. I say this because I only had one type of ammo - Hornady 17 gr V-Max - The wind was blowing from the SW quartering accross the range, about 15-20 mph with occassional 30 mph gusts. I was shooting with a bipod off the tailgate of my truck. All in all, pretty much what you might find in hunting conditions more than a target shooting situation. Let me back up a little. I bought a .17 Hornady Mach 2 Sportster last Thursday. I put a red dot on it because it was what I had on hand. I put a box of shells through it over the weekend cleaning it per break-in suggestions and zeroing the scope. I took it out tonight and decided to see what kind of group I could get under those conditions. This target is the first 12 shots I fired tonight.
This target was shot a 49 yards according to my laser rangefinder. I can't wait for better conditions and shooting it off the bench with different types of ammo. This target gives me a good idea of what to expect out of it in a hunting situation. I guess I'm a confirmed Handi-holic now!!!  Dan

Thanks, I'm looking forward to putting a scope on it instead of the red dot. The dot ( non-adjustable ) covered most of the black at that range. Other than the 7 to 10 yard range, I haven't found much use for this optic. I'm going to a gun show in Stover, Mo this weekend. I'll try to pick up a couple of scopes while there. Any recommendations on what I should look for to use with this cartridge? Of course, I'll be on the lookout for another Handi or Sportster, too !!! Can't believe how good these things are.   Dan

I have a Tasco 6x24x44mm on mine and really like it.Like to see those little holes without using the spotting scope.Have the same scope on three rim fires and like the a lot.Dave
