.22lr barrel
« on: March 11, 2007, 11:35:11 AM »
Does anyone make an aftermarket .22lr barrel for the NEF?  I really want a GM or Shaw barrel for my .22Mag ultra.  I've come over to the single shot world after building a few 10/22s.  The GMs shot really well for inexpensive aftermarket barrels, but I haven't found anything for the handis.

Sorry, but NEF is the only source for barrels, unless you have one custom made by a gunsmith.

I wonder if we had enough interest in one caliber (22lr) if one of the barrel manufacturers would make one?  Or how difficult would it be to take an existing barrel blank and add the forearm lug and ejector from an existing barrel.

I've like the huge amount of aftermarket parts for the Ruger, although not being a fan of Ruger in general, and wish the Handi had as many options.  The market is driven by supply & demand, and you would think with the Handis being sold in every Walmart in America (until recently >:() that there would be a huge demand.

NEF/H&R barrels aren't one size fits all, each barrel must be individually fitted to each frame, that's why H&R doesn't sell just barrels, the frames must be sent to the factory for barrel fitting for a factory barrel or a gunsmith (professional or shadetree!!) must fit a used barrel.

Shadetree seems easy enough after reading the FAQs.  I just might try it after the 45-70 and the 20 ga and the Suzuki and baseball and soccer and whatever else is on my plate!  I would think that shims for the underlug could be provided with the barrel to allow for a custom fit without too much trouble.  Especially for .22lr, since we're not talking about excessive chamber pressure.

Just dreaming I guess, but it would be cool.
