Doctor said for me to walk
« on: March 08, 2007, 04:59:37 PM »
After seven weeks of either in bed or a wheelchair or a walker. My Doc. said for me to walk. The day I fell I was going to try out some 45-70 loads in my B.C. and some casr in my 44 handie. I think they will have to keep awhile longer. Do belive the 22 Hornet witch is a ruger may have to be first. Boy it fells funny to just put that leg back to work. Now to get it strong enough to ket back to work.

Glad to see your back with us buddy, take it slow but keep working that leg and get it strong enough to go walking through the woods this fall for a little hunting or even just a little shooting. If you want some excercise you are welcomed to come up here and walk back and forth between the firing line and target butts to check my targets for me, I really should get a spotting scope but as long as you need the excercise!!!...<><.... :)

hellacatcher.
Good luck in rehabilitating those leg muscles. It is a slow and painful process.
You can do only so much exercising, I know I over did it a while back and it did not do any good.

Here is a suggestion that may help you recover.  Do not walk for distance.  Walk for time.  I will explain.

When I was an Army Recruiter the new recruits would try to run 1 mile 2 miles 3 miles and feel torn to shreds!  I would tell them to run by time and ignore distances.  Look at a watch and start and when they got tired to look at the watch again.  Was it 5 minutes?  Then set the goal to increase the time.

The same thing goes for walking again.  Walk until you are tired and check your watch.  The next time you walk just increase the time by a little bit.  This takes the distance out of the equation.  Walking 5 minutes is better than walking a given distance.  The distance can be accomplished at a later date.  Regardless of your current capable speed it is better to do by a watch and not a ruler.

Get well and take your time!

Hay Marv we know where their minds are. The trip to Hooker is my big reason to get on my feet. Was going totry to go to out lease today but the weather may keep me from it may be later. I took some steps yesterday putting weight on that bad leg just getting ready for June.

i have to agree with bob being an old cross country star myslef (cough cough)!!! just watch that time it will amaze you what your body is capable of, especially when it is in need like yours is.  I always wondered why i always performed so good in competition.  It is just your body telling you what it is capable of.  If it says a eight minute mile then do it. If it says five minute mile do it.  Just listen to your body and know when do say no without giving up.  Kind of an oxymoron huh?!?!?  Best of luck big guy
