SAA,
I must inquire of you how you feel about the laws in Sweden that govern you to which you refer to in your reply; "we're not allowed to use handguns for hunting or 'protection'..." Not being permitted to defend oneself or one's family members from deadly attack when you are licensed to have several handguns is difficult for me to comprehend. I am a lawyer and thus have at least a basic sense of handgun laws in the U.S. of A. Again, how do you, your friends, business associate, ect. feel about the present state of affairs in Sweden regarding the Right to Self-Defense, more specifically with handguns?
Best Regards,
JHT
Well, we do have the right to defend ourselves if its a matter of life and death, I mean that if a perpetrator threatens you with a knife that is not enough reason to kill him, but if he stabs you then you have enough reason to use deadly force against him.
If a criminal should break into my house and threaten me or my family, then of course I would take care of the threat, maybe by the use of deadly force, but I would probably be punished by our legal-system afterwords, since our legal system has a tendency to protect the criminals more than the victims.

Another interesting thing about the Swedish legal system is: Lets say your attacked by a mugger and you beat him up, then youre home free if you didnt use excessive force, but if youre practicing martial arts like shotokan karate for instance and kick the crap out of the mugger then youre in trouble because they compare it to using a firearm or knive (a deadly weapon) and excessive force, what do you guys in the USA think about that!?
