Do you only have double action revolvers?
« on: April 02, 2007, 05:39:15 PM »
I have double pistols that I use for home  revolvers that I use for hunting and semi-automatic pistols that I use for other applications.  Which lead me to think who uses revolvers for all applications?

Thanks
Doug

I only have revolvers, both DA and SA, I use them for target-shooting in different competitions.
I used to have a 9mm pistol too, but I didn't like that caliber, if I buy a pistol again it will be a 1911 in 45acp.
In Sweden were I live, were not allowed to use handguns for hunting or protection, only target-shooting and nowadays our gun-permits have a time-limit of 5 years, after that period we have to seek a new permit for another 5 years. ::)

I have some of each, with about twice as many revolvers as autos.

DA revolvers do it all for me.  And they are .38 special fixed sighted models too.  S&W M&P 5 screw 1947 and a Ruger fixed sighted (yes) Security-Six (early).  Nobodys at a disadvantage with a good quality .38 shooting a heavy SWC at 1000 plus FPS.  They both shoot to point of aim with my loads.
They are old-school, stock grips, no-frills, no add-ons, just serious, reliable pieces.  Those old-timers knew what worked.

SAA,

I must inquire of you how you feel about the laws in Sweden that govern you to which you refer to in your reply; "we're not allowed to use handguns for hunting or 'protection'..."  Not being permitted to defend oneself or one's family members from deadly attack when you are licensed to have several handguns is difficult for me to comprehend.  I am a lawyer and thus have at least a basic sense of handgun laws in the U.S. of A.  Again, how do you, your friends, business associate, ect. feel about the present state of affairs in Sweden regarding the Right to Self-Defense, more specifically with handguns?

Best Regards,

JHT

Well, we do have the right to defend ourselves if its a matter of life and death, I mean that if a perpetrator threatens you with a knife that is not enough reason to kill him, but if he stabs you then you have enough reason to use deadly force against him.

If a criminal should break into my house and threaten me or my family, then of course I would take care of the threat, maybe by the use of deadly force, but I would probably be punished by our legal-system afterwords, since our legal system has a tendency to protect the criminals more than the victims. >:(

Another interesting thing about the Swedish legal system is: Lets say your attacked by a mugger and you beat him up, then youre home free if you didnt use excessive force, but if youre practicing martial arts like shotokan karate for instance and kick the crap out of the mugger then youre in trouble because they compare it to using a firearm or knive (a deadly weapon) and excessive force, what do you guys in the USA think about that!? ;D

Why would i need anything else????

I don't believe in the "spray and pray" theory, so a DA revolver can/will and does, do it all for me.

Another thought...
If my life depended on a handgun I´d make my choice a revolver SA or DA, and I would rather hit the bad guy with 6 22lr than miss with 6 44mag´s. 8)
45colt, 45acp 44-40 or 44special would be my choice of defence caliber.

Make the first shot count, and you might not need to fire another round.

I want to make it clear that discussions like this are merely hypothetical to me and I keep my firearms locked up in a safe.
I live in a quiet small town on the countryside were I dont have to lock my door at night, besides I have a very good alarm-system (2 dogs).

My first two handguns were automatics. Sorry. I was young and didn't know any better. Then I got into DA revolvers. That lasted for several years. Then I discovered how much fun SA revolvers were. Well, today, depending on the situation (and what I wearing) I might carry any of the above, but I would never limit myself to just one type of gun. They are all just too much dang fun to shoot.

Hey SAA, I agree with your alarm system. We have a German Shepherd that has our poor mailman terrified. She's a real 90 pound love bug, but hides it real well around strangers!

Have always been more comfortable with a revolver in my hand than a auto. I own several auto's ( mostly 22's ), just can't shoot them as well as a revolver. Own dozens of revolvers ( single actions, but mostly DA's ) Colts, S&W's, Rugers & 1 Dan Wesson. Mostly in 22's, 38spl, 357mag, 44spl, & 44mag. Love target shooting & hunting with handguns. Not much competitive shooting anymore. TOO OLD ;D ;D
My carry gun is a S&W 696  3" in 44spl.

Howdy.  Newbie here.   Yep, I only have DA revolvers.  A S&W686+ (as the name implies) and a Ruger s.s. GP100, both 4 inch.

I use them for targets, home defense and ccw.

GP-100 SS 6", single six and currently shopping for a .44 in DA or SA.  Wheel guns all the way.

RE: self defence discussion:  Here in Canada it's the same as Sweden tho many of us carry in the bush on the sly.  If a perp busts in, the law allows us to meet force with only similar force.  So we have to wait and see what is presented and counter that force without more than even power.  If I shot a knife weilding meth addict in my bedroom, I'd be going to jail.   FUBAR

I enjoy shooting all types of handguns, but after reading this post I realized I don't own any single actions, but I usually shoot my revolvers single action anyway.

Target shooting anything goes.

Hunting my 44 mag srh for big game or my ruger mk3 hunter for small game.

Home defense a high cap 9mm til I can get to my shotgun.

You got to get out and buy yourself a large caliber single action revolver immediately, your missing out on a lot of fun. ;D
