I never tried any muzzleloader sabots in my 1917, but I did shoot mini bullets. These turned out to be really accurate and had a tremendous amount of knockdown power on pepper poppers and steel plates. I used a Lee .454 mold that poured a hollow based 298 grain bullet. Then I ran the bullet through a .452 sizer. It has been a long time since I had that gun, but I think the powder charge was 3.5 grains of Red Dot. I do not think the bullet was moving very fast, but it sure had a lot of "thump" when it hit something!
