new stevens 200 trigger
« on: February 13, 2007, 07:36:32 AM »
I just got a new .223 and am very happy at how good it shoots. I put a Banner 3-9x40 on it and it gave a 1" group at 100 yd., soon as I got zeroed. I want to learn to reload with this rifle too. The trigger is ok but abit heavy. Is it adjustable ? Can I do it at home? Thank you.

yes it is adjustable, but i cant tell you how.   Take a trip over to savageshooters.com and those guys can get you lined out.   I do know that some can be adjusted to be pretty good, and some run out of adjustment before they even start getting better at all.  Hope you got a good one.

The easiest way is to remove the stock so you can see everything. At the front of the trigger is a slotted screw with a straight music wire spring in it. This adjusts the trigger pull weight. It had four notches so it remains  where you set it. At the rear of the trigger are two allen screws, the front adjusts over travel. The rear one seems to be just for tension on the safety. You can do this by removing the trigger guard and not removing the stock. If you go too low the trigger won't reset. I got mine a hair less than three pounds and it took the bump test OK.

Thanks for the help. The front screw for weight is what I mainly need; the travel is great. If I just reduce the weight do you think it will affect the travel?

Shouldn't. Mine had a little over travel so I had to adjust it. After that the safety was too tight (it was fine to start with) and I had to adjust it.
