I wouldn't consider a Mueller a downgrade in performance from a Nikon, a downgrade in cost tho!! :D  I have both, Muellers are excellent optics, comparable to glass that costs much more.  I don't have that scope, I have the 4-16x50IGR Sport Dot which is the same scope with a different reticle, Mac has that one, I'm sure he'll offer comments on it. I have the Eraticator on my .204 Ruger, I would consider it an excellent varmint scope, the dot covers ¾" at 200yds. The APV or the 8.5-25x44 Tactical would be the other two that I'd consider for varmints.

The Mueller tactical is a outstanding scope for the money....To get as good a quality...you can expect to pay around $200 more IMHO...Now...if you really want to do a little better...you might be lucky enough to find a scope like I got from Quick on a trade...It's a S&W 6x24 with a A/O...this is certainly one of the brightest scopes I have seen that isn't costing $600...If you do a internet search for them...you might run across one...I believe they were made by Hako in Japan...Quick can fill you in on those...he's had a bunch of them...

S&W scopes are hard to find now, occasionally they show up on Ebay, but the only source I know for them is Gunaccessories, and they're real proud of them!! :o I have 3 more of em, but they're all in use. ;D
