Quick Release scope rings for 550 american?
« on: February 12, 2007, 02:36:13 AM »
Does anyone make any quick release rings for these guns that will hold the zero when removed?  I looked, but cannot seem to find any.  Unfortunitly, the availability of these rings is deal breaker for me.

Joe,

I think you should take a look at the Talley QD rings.  They are pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for!

Hmmm I cannot remember exactly what the 550 action is like  ??? however I would expect it to be similar to the pretty standard 700 type. Leupold makes a couple of types of QR bases and rings although I have to say I brought a set of their lever operated ones and was not impressed with the fit to the P-H action. They needed a fair bit of fitting work unlike the Apel Roll offs I have fitted to another P-H rifle.

Apel mounts are expensive but they do fit and they do return to zero even the roll off types let alone the EAWswing mounts.

Edit:-

The Leupold Lever operated QR rings do seem to hold zero, it's just the bases needed a lot of fitting to fit the Parker-Hale 1200 action which I thought very poor especially when they charge about $162 for those Leupold rings and bases here in the UK  :o.

The talleys do look nice.  I have a set of Leupold QR on a remington and i love them.  They have held a zero perfectly thus far.  I dont hope they make a ring for the CZ, but i cant find any info on them anywhere.

I keep thinking that Leupold no longer makes the 550 QD mounts...don't see them listed on their website any longer, and have heard talk they were discontinued.  You might be able to find them, but they'd probably be a private party purchase.

Another manufacturer you could look at would be Warne.

I just bought a set of Talley lever QDs for my 550.  Consensus here, and other places, is that Talley would be the first choice.

My understanding is, yes they will.  I don't yet have direct experience with them (mine are arriving today), but all info coming to me indicates great return-to-zero repeatability.

Talleys hold their zero and even stand up to a 458 Lott.
