Shooting solids

Any one shoot solids in their Handis?  I am looking at shooting solids in my .223 and 30-06.  Trying to get less pelt damage.  I am looking at the 50gr for the .223 and 110gr for the 30cal.  Does anyone use them and do they shoot well?  Rog

If by 'solids' you mean full metal jackets I'd say it's a poor choice for harversting any game. Ideally the bullet enters the animal and expands so fast it doesn't exit. You may have to go the a lighter bullet in a .223 to get this .

Velocity and FMJ's will blow them up just about as bad.

IF you want less pelt damage.  Use the .223 and 40gr plastic tips.

Whichever one shoots best in your gun.  They dont' exit a coyote.

Instant death too.  You'll love that part, just put 'em in the chest and it's
over with and seldom even a kick.

Used to blow things up with '06 and 110's.  Not even piece's left of p/dog's with those!
Just a red misted triangle from where they stood til the goo ran out.

I've blown coyotes in half with those too.  Heads off, rear end's blown off.  Makes a mess
of things.  Even shot a doe antelope in the head with one during season. No head!!
No questions either except why'd I use that hunk of dynamite??  First try, had some along.

55gr's in .223 will exit and ruin a pelt.  Just forget the fmj's and go with .40gr plastic tips like
Nosler, or v max and you'll be happy.

 Sourdough, If you are talking about FMJ bullets, I have never seen one blow up in
 any thing they were shot into! I drove one through 1/2 steel plate.
 It was 55 gr Sierra, out 219 Zipper. Those go through yote or wolf without
 slowing down  Just my 2cents. Marv.

For you 30 cal, might I suggest a round nose bullet?? I've used them on a couple bandits(raccoons) around my uncles place with no pass thru's at 80 yds... Cant remeber the load make up other than varget powder.. It was also in a 308...

If memory serves me they were shooting one inch groups @100 yds...

As for the 223 wish you the best..
