Buy Remington LH 700 Action
« on: January 22, 2007, 06:22:27 AM »
I have wanted a 7MM-08 for quite a while, but with little luck as a lefty.   Took my first gamble on ebay, and located a new 7MM-08 barrel off of a CDL.  The barrel is new unfired from a rifle bought for a project of another caliber.  I should have it within the next 10 days.      My question is where to buy an action. I think that may be less expensive route than buying the available LH .243. in the CDL, but will an action be high polished like  the BDL, or satin finished like the CDL.    I have tried google, and have only found RH actions.   thanks in advance for the help.   CURLY

I'd look on the classified boards here, gunbroker.com, auctionarms.com, and gunsamerica.com.  Might be easier to get a used rifle and strip it than try to get the action alone.  Probably cheaper too.  I've seen used 700 actions sell for more than used rifles.  Beats me why??

Thanks kyelkhunter,   I am looking for a CDL action to match the barrel.   I think the other finishes will bring build price up if they need to be refinished to match.   Good point to look for a used CDL or even a clearance model.  I don't plan on keeping the stock, but will need the .243 action as that is the only made for the .308 case..  I am not sure about the .308 heavy barrel rifle Remington offers.

Depends on what kind of finish you want.  I've found several smiths that will do a matte blue for $75.  For that matter, they could just refinish the barrel to match your action.  As for the stock, any parts you don't want to keep, you post them in the classifieds or on Ebay, gunbroker, etc, and sell them.  Use that money to get what you want.  I've done that many times.  I've bought complete used rifles with scopes, parted them out to get rid of what I didn't want, and ended up with a free or almost free action.   ;)

Try Brownell's or Midway USA catalogs/websites.  They sell Remington actions separately, and I've seen LH actions listed.  Rifles are sometimes discounted.  Actions are not.  You might find a better price on the whole rifle.  Then again, speaking as a fellow left hander, probably not.

If you didn't have your heart set on a Remington, I'd suggest a Savage or Browning, both offer lefties in 7mm-08.

I looked at Brownells, and Midway.   No left handed actions listed.   I have a new CDL barrel coming and should have it by the end of the week.   I like Rem 700's and will stay with them.                 I agree that i may have to buy the whole gun and sell off parts i dont need.
