.44 Mag. Bore Diameter?

My father in law is wanting a  44 mag barrel  for his Handi.  My  question is  are they still having  trouble  with the  bore  size?.. I don't want to  see him  spend  good money if  the thing  won't  shoot . has anyone  bought a new one  recently  and  slugged it
