Golden Oldie
« on: January 25, 2007, 01:42:03 PM »
     Greetings gentlemen,
Thought I would finally jump in and share ( THE ) hobby.   I am encloseing pictures of a 1/12 th scale replica, of a 24 pounder from the frigate Constitution.  Well, scaled from as much information that I could find in 1963.  The bore is 1/2 " and the barrel is 9" of brass.  The truck is oak and the hardware is brass.  Yes, the subject title is correct, I had it gold plated, even though it cost me much of a weeks wages at the time.  But after 40 years I have only had to dust it.  I realy enjoy this forum, I just wish more of you were on the west coast.

Nice looking gun, I'd like a scale ship to fit about 40 of these.

I have to machine, or cast, 30  3"  Naval barrells for a man who is building a 1700'S British Navel war ship. It's gona look real cool when it's done.  He wants a few to be able to fire.

Div Arty.

When I get back to Montana, I want to set up an annual cannon shoot in Cut Bank. Not coast, but west...

When would that be DD? I'm in on that one, just for meeting as many of you gentleman as I can, if for nothing else. I should be back from South Korea by that time and have my mortar in hand and will save the leave for a trip like that.

     Double D

Sounds great, maybe I can pick up Will Bison on the way out.  I'm in the central sierras, not to far from the Biggest Little City in the World.

Lets see I should leave South Africa in March,  will need a couple months to get the house set up.  Probably July or August, 2011.

That enough lead time for you guys to plan.

Santa Dave, every one will be invited. Everyone will be there, physically, in spirit and in memory.

I set up and shoot Martini Playdays, to be known in the future as The Victorian Rifle Provincial Shoot--I start the event with a volley.

http://www.fototime.com/5F5900A801ECE08/conv.wmv

Many here may not  remember Jim Wait.  Jim is no longer with us here on the board.  But Jimmy will be there in memory.  Those of you who can't travel to the wild reaches of Montana, you will be there in spirit.  Those of us who can be there physically will honor those of you who can't come with a  volley.

I will schedule the time for the Volley and ask everyone who can't come to the shoot to take their cannon out and at that hour where they are and fire a return volley. It brings us all together in Spirit.

Div Arty,  I will have a 12 round SAMCC match that will be just right for your little gun. Under 1 inch guns at 25 yards, no sights, fired in 6 round stages, best 5 shoots each stage. Start practicing.

It sounds like were going to have quite a get together in Cut Bank.  Let's have a rip roar'en shoot'en time.

Rickk , I had better clarify myself, the 3" was the lenght of the tube, not the bore.

    Double D

Thanks for the invite on the SAMCC shoot, but I'm in the middle of constructing a 1/2 scale #1 carraige and I just might be finnished by 2011.  Like every one says, size matters.  I'd hate to be caught in the Big Sky country with only a half inch bore.
