Little Red River Arkansas
« on: December 11, 2006, 06:41:49 AM »
We have done some trout fishing in SE OK but the people totally chase the stocking trucks and powerbait the heck out of them.....Do not want to offend anyone but that is not my cup of tea. I flyfish as do my friends...my wife uses ultralight spinning tackle. We would like to catch some trout that were not raised in a concrete pond. Yes, we have caught some nice fish that were truely a challenge in OK but we want to try something new.

We are not opposed to hiring a guide but it is Christmas time and my wife and I are both teachers. Also, i always feel weird hiring a guide and then going back without the guide...kinda feels like we are sniping his area.  Looking to fish Jan-Feb for the first trip.

I would like to fish the Little Red river OR ANYWHERE in Arkansas but I have no experience there. I would greatly appreciate and information.....places to camp.....places to fish....good eating.....any special regs(I will do my reading but is there anything i might miss).....Is this a wade fishing area, conoes, one person inflatable pontoon boats, etc....

Would anyone with experience be willing to show us around....I know that is asking a lot but you never know unless you ask.

Would be looking to fish anytime.....from now to whenever.....

Thanks,
kyle

You may want to find a fly fishing forum for your state. I find that not many people post in this fly fishing forum. It's even more difficult to find someone in your state on this national site. If you ever head up to Colorado I'll be glad to give you some places to fish. Gotta to love being a teacher! Summers off :)

rocky,

Thanks for the reply.  I know it is a longshot but this is a board I frequent and thought I would try.

As it stands right now, there is a slight chance I will get up to Colorado this Summer....maybe June.  Looking to do a prairie dog hunt and then maybe some fishing.

Summers off are GREAT.  One of our FEW perks.  In June, the weather would be nice for camping in Colorado?  Camping is cheap and my wife and I both love the outdoors anyway.

Thanks,
Kyle

I know a few guides in the area. I live close and fish a lot below Beaver Dam, I only have to go about 20 miles and I'm on the river.
Let me know if I can help

I didn't know you trout fish in Ok.,,I am from montana ,living in Louisiana, and when I want to fly fish,,I have to go to Ar. as well,,,no place in particular 'cause I like to go to diff. areas each time. The little red is good,, the white, buffalo,,lots of places,,not too bad in the lakes either for browns if the water is clean and cool enough.Just about any bait and tackle shop can put on 'em or recommend someone,,you might like a float trip that Ark. is famous for.About the most famous for years is Gastons Lodge.Go to the states website and click on fishing/hunting/outdoors,,or however they list it.Who knows,,,maybe I'll snag you on a back-cast!!! :D
