3 Forend Q'z
« on: January 15, 2007, 01:32:35 PM »
I'm awaiting delivery of my 30-06 this weekend.  I've been reading so I've got a few more H&R Q'z.

1. When shooting from bags it seems best to rest the gun behind the forend screw.  If the forend is bedded with some float ahead of the forend does this apply?
2. Is the internal design of the synthetic forend comprised of lots of little comparments, ie Savage's synth or, is it a smooth surface?  Fill the voids then bed?
3. I saw a synthetic stock on a youth model @ WMart next to a wooden stock on a shotgun.  The shotguns forend appeared to fit the barrel pretty snuggly where as the youth rifle had almost an 1/8" between the barrel and stock.  Maybe the above tips address this one?

There's only one synthetic forend for the Handi, youth or otherwise, if the youth Handi was a superlight, there would be a gap cuz it has a very thin barrel compared to the bull barrel(.17s) and standard contour barrels.

The syn forend is hollow, has 3 short ribs in it, the center one has the forend hole in it.

That makes sense.  If I fill the back two voids and bed the forend do I still need an O ring?  What kind?

I'll leave that up to someone who has worked with the syn stock, I don't care for it, so I've never worked with it any more than using an O-ring on my rimfires which was sufficient for MOA groups.
