new rifle barrel on older frame

I Have a stanless Handy GunII  model 258 seral no. ba47xxxxxxx  i know h&r will not put a barrel on  this reciever.  will a 223 barrel fit this gun and will it be safe? Is anyone willing to do it? I have been reading this form and H&Rs for years  i wonder what happened to big monty and his 30-06

I wouldn't recommend using the old frame for any new barrel, the modern frames are much stonger and not that expensive to be worth the risk of ruining the old frame or yourself. I have a Topper 158 .30-30, the underlug of a late barrel would require about .080" of material be removed from the underlug pivot to fit the older Topper frame.
