I want to start by saying I found this sight a few days ago and am so happy that I stumbled across it in my wandering, tons of useful info here. My Christmas present to my self this year was a new stainless handi, synthetic stock with the normal 22" barrel in .223. The purchase was inspired by my brother who this fall bought a handi in the .17hmr. I liked that little gun so much I had to have one but wanted a little more smoke for a varmint gun, the primary use, I like the .223 round and have a lot of experience with it in my AR. So in preperation for woodchucks this spring I have been making friends with all my amish neighbors here in Lancaster County PA, who all seem to dislike their field horses stepping in the chuck holes, I have put on a Burris Fulfield II 4.5 - 14 x 42 and am searching for the best ammo. The gun seems to be really accurate with any decent fmj rounds, rem, win, even ultramax and blackhills have shot pretty tight groups here in the yard at 100yds. I am going to have to step into a varmint round of some sort since I doubt the farmers want fmj rounds flying down past the house after ripping through a chuck at the top of a hill. I know every gun is going to have one ammo that is the best so my main question is, what is the best varmint round? Not just manufacturer, but vmax, nosler, etc points. I Don't think I will see many shots around here past 300 to 350 yards so the heavy rounds wont be necessary. To my knowledge this gun is a 1 in 9 twist. Is that correct? I know that was a lot of typing for two basic questions but I just get so excited about seeing a chuck shred or better yet a muskrat turn into a depth charge in my pond this spring.
