Frame ?

Im looking for a 4'' .357 Mag and have chosen the S&W 686 over a GP100. I know little about S&W frames and sizes. I know its a medium frame gun but could someone fill me in on what letter frame the 686 is and does it have a round or square frame?

The 686 will be a "L" frame. The 4" should have a square butt. Either the Ruger or the S&W would be a great choice. I have both, and I think you did really good in getting the Smith.
