Barrel Prices
« on: January 13, 2007, 12:31:45 PM »
This cropped up in the classifieds, I think a discussion should be in this part of the forums.

I have been seeing prices for barrels creep up quickly lately on ebay and at first I was surprised, as are a lot of us here.  But, after a little reflection on the subject, it should not be a surprise.  Last year I got 2 barrels from HR when they had the sale.  The sale was no fitting fee and 5 dollars off barrel price.  So todays 85 dollar barrel was

80 + 12  (my shipping) + 10  (return shipping) = 102  if getting one barrel, roughly 95 if you got 2 at a time since the shipping is the same.

Now its

85 +  12  +15  +  10 =  122  for one barrel

As someone explained, to get that from the factory, you have to package, go to the shipping location, be without you gun for almost 2 months.  So, for someone to pay 150 on ebay and have it land on their front porch in a week, and maybe it will fit with little effort is not unreasonable.

Now, it has be suggested that we should be offering barrels for $85,  these barrels have never been 85 dollars all things considered.  And I am not going to risk letting one go for the "neighborly discount", only to have that person turn around and put it on ebay for top dollar.  I call that bottom feeding.  I dont know that it has been happening, but I dont want it start if it has not already.

Real simple to figure out. Check out the seller's handles at Ebay and see if they might match any handles you see here.

There is a member here that has a barrel on e-bay now and as far as i know he did not get it here and it is going for a obseen price , i do not feel he did it for any other reason than to get his money back that he spent on the barrel .

Some members sell on other sites just to get a bigger group of people to see what they have and some are just in it to make money and some do it just to get money for other barrels or guns .

As much as some of it bothers me i do not see were it breaks any of GBOs rules and it is a free country .

understand my comment about flipping barrels for profit was not a new concern for me, so it was not a result of your post flitz.

what in the world, I may need to order up one of those 450 marlin barrels while I have my frame in for fitting.  That or a 500.  240 dollars is insane for a barrel.  Is the 450 discontinued?

The 450M isn't available as a rifle, but it's available in the accessory barrel program just as the .357mag is.

I thought the 450Marlin was discontinued.  I may have to get my receiver boxed up right away if they still have some.
Ill call the CS line Monday morning and check.
I wanted to buy that ebay 450Marlin, and bid it up to $159, but I see it finally went for 255.  If I wanted to spend that much, Id buy a thompson.
