243 ultra 26" reg barrel
« on: January 03, 2007, 06:37:08 PM »
Did they make a 243 in 26"? I just got one and dealer book said 26",but came in and was 22".I thought 25-06 and 243 was available in 26".Kinda glad now after handling it. Just wondering? On a side note it was a ejector instead of a extractor and liked that! HU means 2004 right? As always thanks fellers!!

The only 26" calibers have been the .25-06 and .280 currently, the RMEF 35 Whelen also had a 26" barrel.  The longest .243 is the Ultra and Fluted Ultra at 24".

Yup...it isn't a normal option...and if it really is a 243...I would say you have yourself a real rare barrel..

Mac, it's a 22" barrel. After reading my post it sounds like I got a 26". What i'm thinkin and what i'm typin don't always jive! It's a H&R Ultra 243 reg barrel brown laminate.I was just thinkin i'd seen the 243's in a little longer barrel somewhere, other than the fluted with choate stocks. Don't really matter, like I said i was just curious. The HU is 2004 right? Kinda suprised (in a good way) me when I broke it open and had ejector! I have a 223 ultra fluted I bought a year ago off of same place with extractor. When did they change over and did they do all guns at same time? Thanks Jimmy

Actually sounds to me like you got a 2004 receiver with a 2006 barrel on it. Wonder if they've started sending them out that way from the factory now?  ???

I don't know if it's this years barrel or not..I haven't asked them if they have switched everything over to extractors yet..I was told last year that when their supply of regular ejector barrels were depleted they would be making the switch..The NU is a 2004 receiver..so it could be a 2004 rifle or a early 2005 assembled one.. that was sitting in a dealers stock or distributors stock if the gun is new...If used..it could be as Like2hunt said..

I just checked with Jennifer & Gordon at NEF...They both said they have never seen anything longer than the 24" length bull barrels or the fluted models..
