My .35 Whelen has the longer barrel, and it shoots nice.  I load Nosler 250gr partitions, and I limit my shots to no more than 250 yards.  My Dad used it to shoot a Moose a few years back, one shot at 40 yards.  I would not be afraid to go after Grizzly with it.  To be honest I don't carry it often, because I am always carrying my 30-06 Handi.  Comes from having too many I guess.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

What is hunting in Maine like?  The .35 is a more likely moose caliber, the .280 one of the ignored best calibers around.  The current Whelen has the 22" barrel.  The previous ones had 26.  The 280 is 26.  If you can actually find a Whelen let me in on it, escpecially if it is not overpriced and costs more to ship and to pay off the FFL at this end than it is worth.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

Hunting in ME can be very frustrating to highly productive. I have hunted Moose Deer Bear Coyote and Turkey. The Northern half of the state is mostly paper company owned land. Deer hunting in that part is frustrating not alot of deer but when you find one there is a good chance it will be a monster. MY brother is a bear guide and frequently gets them over 400 lbs Last year my Dad got a B&C buck that grossed over 160 and weighed 250lbs I usaully dont have that kind of luck.
