221 Fireball
« on: December 27, 2006, 07:34:30 AM »
I was looking at my reloading book, and wondered if you would be able to rechamber a 22 hornet to 221 fireball.  It looks like the fireball's case is .003 inches shorter, but other than that, it looks like it should clean up the old chamber nicely.  The only other thing I wonder about is how would you go about redoing the extractor to work for the new case head.  Thanks for answering my rambling.

A couple years ago while we were still on the old forum a member bought a used Handi 221 (most likely a rechambered 22 Hornet) from one of the auction sites. His report was positive if I remember correctly. Yes. the extractor would need to be changed from a rimed to rimless type. This is an easy job for any good 'Smith.

I have a Fireball in a CZ527. It's a great choice in a Handi. Mine shoots 0.3MOA out to 200 yards. Effective on groundhogs out to 200 yards. Beyond that the bullets don't expand.
