New Year's Resolutions ... it's that time ...
« on: December 26, 2006, 12:50:56 AM »
Well, Christmas Day is behind us all and it is time to start thinking about our resolutions for the coming new year. When considering that resolutions can cover such a vast area, whether it be personal, professional, spiritual, etc, I am suggesting you can make your replies in any area you feel you need to. I have never committed myself publicly before. I feel if I do this in front of my friends here at GBO, my committment will be stronger. I have three ...

1. .... to become a better husband, father, son, and brother.
2. .... to buy 3 more firearms (a 7mm-8 bolt action rifle, a 45/70, and a scoped handgun.)
3. .... to exersize regularly and eat healthier (notice there is no commitment on poundage ... lol)

I can go along withbigjeepman's list, slightly modified however, for my own circumstances.

Since I am on wife #3, and have been sucessfully practicing the "better husband" thing already, I will be continuing that. I will conduct a teleclass on relationshsips that I have been procrastinating about for a year. I will finish at least one book that I have begun, and creat and host the website I am doing simply for the joy of it. (It has something to do with single shot shooters, so watch for an announcement.)

I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and have had high blood pressure for some time. An unexpected visit to the ER a couple of months ago got my attention :o. That, and the fact that I have not yet taken my son (who lives with his mother, some distance from me, and just turned 12) hunting, brings me to a commitment to take better care of myself so I can take him hunting in '07. I went for my first hunting trip with my dad when I was 11, so it is definitely time for my son and me. So diet and exercise are currently on my list, and will continue into the new year and beyond.

This also leads me to a similar commitment as bjm's #2 - I will acquire a hunting rifle for my son, in one of the following calibers: 30/30, 357 mag, 7x30 Waters, 7mm-08. (I plan to make it a Handi, even though, as of yet I haven't got a clue where a 7x30 Waters Handi can be had without considerable -to me anyway- investment.)

Under the category of "better son" I will let go of the issues I developed with my parents at a young age, and will continue to show my respect and appreciation for my dad, and others of his generation, who fought the battles of WWII and Korea, and whose numbers are fast declining. (This is the subject of one of the above mentioned books.) Also I continue to acknowledge those who have fought, and are fighting more recent battles.

Lastly, I will maintain a positive approach to my endeavors, invest them with enthusiasm, and be not afraid to act because of fears of failing or looking silly to others.

Cheers
Kerry
