My two new barrels.
« on: December 19, 2006, 05:45:53 PM »
Well I got my frame and two barrels back the other day.  I had two slight problems at first.  First of all the lever to open the action was loose and rattles in the frame.  You guys assured me that this is normal and no problem.  Next I realized the contour of my two barrels is different and the forearm only fit the smaller diameter barrel.  So tonight I opened the barrel channel a little and now it fits just fine.
Today I spent some time trying to decide on scope/ring setups for the two barrels.  Well this is what I think I will be using.

This is the 22” sporter .308 barrel.  I think it will be using my Simons Aetec in a set of medium burris rings.  It is a basic setup but I think it will work well.  I would like to get it mounted a little lower but I think I would have to trim the hammer first.

This is my 22” .357 barrel.  I actually bought a Leupold 2-7 for it but I think I will give this set up a try.  I mounted the 2-7 Leupold and it had to sit up high like the one on the 308 to clear the hammer.  Then I grabbed this old shotgun scope I had laying around.  I realized that I could mount it forward of the hammer.  This let me mount it behind the rear sight and in front of the hammer.  I had to remove some of the scope mount to clear the bell on the scope.  I will have to go back later and clean it up but it really doesn’t look to bad.  I really wanted to get the scope mounted down low on this barrel.  I have to point out that those are burris super low rings.  If I really like the set up I might find a better shotgun scope to use.  I am really leaning towards having this barrel cut down to 18” or so.  I think it would make a great little brush gun.
Let me know what you think of these two.  I will get a range report ASAP but  it will be well after the holidays.
