Weight of SAVAGE 10FP - LE1 - 20"
« on: March 17, 2007, 04:20:25 AM »
Can anyone advise weight of this one? They list 8.5lb at Savage but I figure that's 24" bbl.  Does anyone have one, who can comment on balance of the 20" bbl model for offhand shooting.  I don't have the luxury of seeing one before possible mail order.
Thanks, Ed

I have a model 10 in 308 with a 20" barrel.  Not sure what the LE1 is?  Mine weighs less than 7lbs.  It may weigh about 7 with a scope and sling, can't remember for sure.  The rifle is a little light for my taste, I think a little longer barrel would balance it out some.

Thanks.  The LE is law enforcement.  The bbl certainly looks heavier in the photo and I too want something a little heavier, at least 7 or 7.5lbs   FYI here's a picture (Canadian pricing)  I figure it could be a lot of fun good offhand practice with a bit faster powder, might have to put a rubber with some shot in the stock for balance! and OK for a bit of hunting too.

I have the fp10 duty model in 308 which has the 24" heavy barrel and it weighs just about 8lbs with out the scope or bipod.   I don't know if that will help you since you are looking at the 20" but I would assume the 20" model would be a few ounces lighter than mine due to 4" shorter barrel.  I would guess you would be looking at something between 7.5-8 lbs.

I've had both, the 24" and the 20".  I put them both on a scale one time, and the 24" went just past 8.25, the 20" was right at 8lbs.  Heavy barrels, muzzle diameter was just a bit over .80".  They both had Bell & Carlson Dura Maxx stocks on them, probably a couple ounces heavier than the factory ones.  The 20" barrel balanced pretty well, better than I thought it would.  It was a nice, compact, stout rig.  Shot well too, a couple of factory loads would go under an inch or better all day long.  I ended up selling it to a SWAT team member at a nearby police dept.
