Thompson Center Contender/Encore Rifles Carbines
« on: December 21, 2002, 05:04:45 AM »
As a total novice in the Switch-em and Swap-em T/C Encore and Contender business......Can I ask some basic questions:
1)  What are the differences between the two guns?
2) Will the action from an Encore work on Contender?
3) Will barrels from an Encore fit on a Contender, also stocks?
4) The new G2 Contender has what changes compared to older G1?
5)  Finally, why did T/C come out with two models Encore/Contender, if they are interchangable in every respect?  Is one designed for pistol cartridges, the other rifle cartridges, black powder?

Thanks for bearing with me and the dumb questions?????

Others more qualified than I may correct me, but I am almost dead certain that Contender and Encore barrels are NOT interchangeable.  In fact, I don't think anything with these two systems is interchangeable.  Correct me if I'm wrong please.

That is correct Selmer. To the best of my knowledge not one single even small piece on either is interchangeable with the other. They are two different guns just as if one was named Ruger and the other Colt. The fact they are both single shot and have interchangeable barrels is their only connection other than TC makes both.

G2. You must be dreaming or have heard from someone who is. I'll believe it if I seen it in my hands in a gunshow some day. I'm not holding my breathe waiting for that day. It is a figment of someone at TC's imagination.

Well now keep in mind the G2 is as of yet just a figment of someone's imagination. To the best of my knowledge the total world supply of them is TWO (2) hand made at TC for demo purposes only.

But yes IF and WHEN a G2 becomes a reality and IF it is like the demo models there will be gussets on it like on the Encore. In fact it looks like a slightly scaled down Encore.
