I just hold mine in my hand or lay it on the workbench.  Never seen a problem with this, much less a $40 problem.

To each his own though.  That is what makes the world go round.

That gives me an idea. Dangerous, I know. You could cut a partial barrel channel in a 2X4, make a rough cut-out for the lug, drill an apropriately-placed hole, and have a barrel-holding fixture to clamp in the vise. Sounds like time to play with the table saw,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

Turns out this product is made no more than 10 miles from where I'm working. Just got off the phone with the owner and he's going to have one at the local gun store for me to pick up. I'll be sure to give a report on it's fit and function. Jeff

I'm with quicksdraw, a padded bench vise dosen't cost me anything. I might consider this gadget for $10, but at $40 I'll just be a little more careful not to let the barrel bump the vise.

I made my own for the Contenders over 30 years ago out of a couple of blocks of hard maple and a dowel (still have it), and made a second to fit the Encores when they first came out.   Very sturdy on any flat service, hood of truck, etc., yet so portable you can take it anywhere you choose to do the cleaning.   Will not damage the barrels finish either.   Use mine right on the portable shooting bench out in the field or at the range at the end of each shooting session.   Doubles as a great place to mount the barrel while installing or working on the sights/scopes too.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
