Change in forestock increases accuracy
« on: November 30, 2006, 11:23:20 AM »
I had problems with my 30/06 keeping a tight group.I have a synthetic stock. I placed one of those square like survivor front forends on, and the gun now shoots less than an inch at 100 yds. It freefloats the barrel and has eliminated all my problems.
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

I also saw positive results with my Handi .30-06 with forend modifications.  I sanded the barrell channel to clear out any imperfections, enlarged the barrel mounting stud hole so that the forend will freely fall off on its own, which also provided a comfortable seating area for the "O" ring.  Finally, I used a piece of weather stripping 1" from the end of the forend to reduce barrel vibration.  The results are now consistant groups in the 1" range at 100 yards.
