Left Handed Handi's
« on: December 04, 2006, 09:51:35 AM »
Greetings!  This is my first post here and I don't even own a Handi, ...yet. ;)

I've been lurking over on the Marlin forum ever since MarlinTalk went down.  Now I have a renewed interest in Handi's.  My daughter turns 12 next year and will be hunting elk with me.  I was all set to get her a youth model (insert brand here) in 7mm-08 until I remembered she's right handed & left eye dominant.  She shoots all her long guns left handed.  Coming by a youth model left hand bolt gun is easier said than done.  Enter the Youth Model Handi 7mm-08 SB2-Y08.  Too bad NEF doesn't make youth model boxed sets of 7-08 or .243 with a .223 "training" barrel included.  I'll probably end up ordering the SB2-Y08 from Wal-Mart and shipping it back to NEF for a .223 barrel and trigger job before her next birthday.

Of course I'll want to get myself a .280 Handi too, just because.  When I do, I should be able to swap her 7mm-08 and .223 barrels onto my frame, right?  Where do I go to find barrel fitting instructions?

What are my options for prettier stocks for both youth and full size models.

TIA for any input.

Welcome to GBO!! The .223 and 7-08 barrels fitted to her 7-08 frame may or may not fit your frame, you won't know until you try it. Barrel fitting instructions are in the FAQs and Help sticky as well as links other info like H&R's retail price list which has stocks listed. Just be aware that once you make changes to make them fit your frame, they won't fit hers.

quickdtoo,

Thanks for the input.  Sounds like I'll have to get my own extra barrels.

If I get my act together & get her rifle/barrels here I should have them set up and lapped-in in time for prairie dog season next spring.
