New Mauser 03 Bolt Action
« on: November 14, 2006, 09:43:58 AM »
I read in a recent magazine ad that there is a new Mauser 03 Bolt action rifle.  The ad says something along the lines that this mauser is for the next century, just like the one before it.  I don't know about that.  From a look at the picture (which was mostly of the rifle and very little of the action), the closed bolt reminds me of the Browning A-Bolt IIs.  It also has a very different safety that switches left to right on the back of the bolt.

Have any of you seen this ad?  I know nothing about this new Mauser action.  What do you guys think?

Well it was new in 2003 which is why it's called the 03  ;)

I have the leaflet from Mauser here somewhere and due to German safety laws that's not a safety but moving the lever at the rear of the bolt to the right actually cocks the mech. You have to do that EVERY time as it's automatic and does not cock on cycling the bolt so not much good fro dangerous game  ::).

I was interested but have not seen one in the flesh so to speak and the price here in the UK quickly put me off. I have their last new model the M96 Slide Bolt and thought this would be noce to go with it but not at that price whihc is about $2500 US and goes up from there for better wood engraving etc  :(

Oh Mauser it seems has been taken over and is no longer based in Obendorf another strike against in in my mind  :'(.

I'm surprised that I didn't hear about this model back in '03.  As for that "lever," it doesn't sound like something of interest to me.  And as for the $2,500 price......well, enough said I guess. :)

Hi Zachary ,

Ahhh funnily enough I brougt a Gun Magazine to read and what do I see but a full page M03 advert.

Hmmm it gives the Mauser website as the place for informations so I went and found this :-

http://www.mauser.com/M-03.142.0.html?&L=1

   It also says :-

Quote
Current safety requirements stipulate that hunting rifles must be carried uncocked. The M 03 is cocked manually just before firing. This is easily done in the firing position.

The official Mauser importers in the US it seems are :-

USA
Briley Manufacturing, Inc.
1230 Lumpkin Road
Houston, Texas 77043
U.S.A.

Tel: 001-800-331-5718
Tel.: John Guillot 228-363-2626
Fax: 001-713-932-1043
Web: www.mauser-usa.net
Web: www.briley.com
Mail: h6143(at)yahoo.com

It seems that Briley just use the Mauser catalogue online for their information but hey it gives all the info. Now the Mauser site has the history on it and her eit is then click ont he year you wish to know about :-

http://www.mauser.com/History.155.0.html?&L=1

   Have fun  ;D.
