.500 scope problems
« on: November 26, 2006, 04:47:58 PM »
A friend has a .500 that he has had for a couple years now and he has a question about what scope, red dot and rings to use that will actually hold on this gun. He has tried several scopes including red dots and Burris w/three Warn tacticle rings and still no luck holding things still for more than a few shots even with things epoxy'd together. The gun is very erratic with 36" groups at 50 yards from a bench. He shoots 150-200 all day long with open sights but wanted to scope it and now that he can not find anything to work it has become kind of a challenge to find something that holds. He was hoping to set the gun up for a 100-150 yard gun. Been through 2-3 red dots and a few scopes and still no luck as something has got to be moving. What are your set ups for this gun for say out to 150yrds. Loads? Scopes? Rings? thanks!

Same problem with the TC Pro Hunter 460 so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

See your other post about the 460 scope question.
Red-dot-- Ultra-dot Match-dot. I use and recommend them. I have them on both my 460 Mags and 500 Mags.  Thousands of rounds and no failures.
Scope-- Bushnell 2X6X32. Has work great.
Rings-- Warne.

On my 500 I used a Leupold Scope with Weaver rings and Warne bace. And I have fired over 1000 rounds threw it. That scope doesn't move at all and sight picture is clear as can be.

I have a Weaver 2x scope in Warne QD rings on my PC 500 Hunter. It shoots 3" groups at 50 yds. with my mild handloads. Even with heavy loads, the scope stays put just fine. I use green loctite to hold it in place in the rings. Green Loctite is for sleeve fittings, like scopes in rings.
