Any Sidekick Ramrod Solutions ???
« on: October 03, 2006, 04:17:15 PM »
Hello , I am brand new to this web site. Was referred to it from someone else at a different Forum.  I am looking at buying a new Sidekick and the only thing I have heard bad about them is the RAMROD !!  Wondering if anyone has come across a solution to this supposed problem , and what it is ?  Any other additional information would be greatly appreciated.

                                     THANK YOU

The ramrod is made to telescope which is required to get the rod under the barrel and still have the action block intact. The stock rod has a couple of problems. It is pretty wimpy and only good for emergency use. The end is not made to accept pointed bullets and the thread in the rod is not standard. There is a rod that is made by Hubbards Outdoor Products (205) 665-0444 which is a lot more solid and the thread is standard and the end of the jag is relieved to accept pointed bullets. It is also about two inches longer than the stock rod when extended which is a neat thing also. I just received one for my Huntsman and the rod is an excellent improvment on the original design and works a lot better. The price is about $35 delivered and is well worth every penny. I just ordered another just in case I lose this one. Be sure to specify your barrel length when ordering. Some older rifles have short barrels.

Thanks for the tip !! I'm sure I will be ordering one also if I can't figure out a way to modify the forend to accept a ramrod that isn't collapsible.

The one I just received is for the shorter barrel rifle. It still extends to the same length as the original but the intent is for the replacement to be two inches longer than the original and still collapse to the same length. It is very much stronger than the original. If you have a short barrel I would be able to send this one to you as I have already ordered another and didn't want to have to send the other one back. Now that I think about it, I probably should have. I would send it to the lower 48 for $35 delivered. The jag is relieved for pointed bullets and the work is extremely well done.

Sorry,
I just called and ordered one today. He said he would ship it out tomorrow.  If I was you I would keep it.  You never know when your main one will break or get lost and then your up a creek without a paddle.

I'm tickled to say I was the one who took Mr. Hubbard the first Sidekick to look at and take measurements on soon after I got mine. He was already making the rods for the Huntsman. I've had zero problems with it and I doubt you could break it if you tried. It is reallyy a well made ramrod.

I am a little surprised that NEF has not elected to buy the rights or have them made for them to replace the poor excuse for a ramrod that they supply. It is the only down side for a great rifle. T/C did almost the same thing with the Powerrods that were being made outside the company. I hope it they decide to improve the production ramrod that they do not put Hubbard out of business as the small guy should still be allowed to prosper.

Not a problem; my address is Keith Lewis  7740 E. Mawson Rd. Mesa, AZ  85207. Give me an address and I will put it back in the same tube that they shipped it to me and put your address on it. I would be able to send it off Monday or Tuesday. Even if I do not have the MO yet I will get it shipped off. You can email me at klewisinc@msn.com. We can keep from cluttering up the site that way.
