Rib Scope Mount
« on: September 14, 2006, 02:44:00 AM »
I found a cantilever rib mount for a Remington Shotgun the other day and was wondering if they are any good.  Think it's made by B-Square.  Haven't had much luck with saddle mounts for shooting rifled slugs.  Anyone using one of these and if so how well does it work and does it stay tight?  If it will work well enough I can put it on my Model 1100 20 ga Youth for cheap shooting and close deer hunting.  Thanks for any info on this item.

Here's another one I found, I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone that has used this type of mount.

That looks like the one I have.  It also has a couple of set screws in the side to tighten the sides against the rib.  I put it on my shotgun and tried it and it seems to hold tight.  I used some loctite on the screws.  Tried it with Federal tru-ball slugs and the accuracy was not good.  The slugs really leaded up the barrel pretty fast.  I am going to try it again with Remington Sluggers when I get a chance.

What choke are you using? I think cyl. bore is suggested for forester(sp?) style slugs in smooth bores. I hope you find a brand that shoot well in your gun.
I'm gonna try some Brenneke K.O. slugs, Dicks has them on sale for under $2.00. My rifle sighted Moss 500 seems to like Winchester Silver box rifled slugs.

I'm using the improved cyl choke which has done well in other guns I have used.  I think the accuracy problem is slug related.  The Federal's didn't do well in my other gun either, 870 Exp, which my son now has.  The Federal's really leaded up my barrel real fast.  Remington Sluggers have always done well for me in other guns over the years when I could use open sights.

Hey guys, I've had that mount on my Remington 870 for over 10 years. With the cheap Winchetser slugs and a rifled choke tube they usually stay in 4 - 6" for 3 shots at 100 yards. I tried the reciever mount and couldn't keep my groups under 10"
