Sabot Slug Reloading
« on: October 30, 2006, 04:08:24 PM »
Hello, I am new to reloading shotshell. I am starting out doing 500 or so 2 3/4 field loads. Then I want to do the slugs (which are the main reason I am starting shot shell reloading). I have been using the Hastings laser accurate 3" sabots. They are rudely accurate at 100 yards. If you could hold it still, the slugs would follow the previous one thru the holes (using a Handi Ultra Slug gun). I cannot find the sabots from Hastings, (I have yet to call them, but the sales of the sabots was been removed from the web site). The other option is the Lightfields, which you can buy on line, $80 for 100, but as of now, no reload data for the 3" magnums. Has anyone got any suggestions as to sabot manufac's, load data, helpful hints, etc? Thanks.

I`ve never loaded saboyed slugs, but years ago I tried loading some foster slugs. I got the recipe from the Lawman manual. I found that if the slugs are made from pure lead they shoot  great, but if they are cast from anything else they are not accurate. In fact the one cast from pure lead out shot every slug they went up against with my friends doing the shooting with their gun and shooting them against their favorite sliges, and some were up against sabots in rifled barrels.
