I'm having the same issues with mine. I got the .50 cal barrel back a few weeks ago from the factory. Never had any problems with my .243 barrel. While at the range for my first sight in session, it wouldn't pop a cap. Luckily I didn't have a charge in, so I took it apart. I took the barrel off, put some break free on the firing pin and worked it about 20-30 times, then used a pipe cleaner in the hole. Not a lot of crud came out, but some did. Then I pulled the breech plug, looked at the face, and put it back in. I did set a piece of plastic over the firing pin hole and pulled the trigger; the plastic went flying, so it appeared to have enough force.
I then put a carrier and primer in, pulled the trigger, nothing. So then I'm thinking that the breech plug face where the carrier sits is too far forward, thus moving the primer surface too far forward. To test the theory I backed the breech plug out 1/2 turn, put a carier/primer in and BANG! Then I went to 1/4 turn out and it fired again, but if I went past that, no luck. The only thing I had in my range box that I could make a shim with was some teflon pipe tape. I put enough wraps around the base of the plug threads so that when it was tight it was backed off the 1/4 turn I needed. I then proceeded to snap about 10 caps to be sure, then went ahead and sighted in.
Not wanting to send it back to the factory, I need to get ahold of some metal shim material to make something more permanent. Once I do, we should be in business. Anyone see any safety issues with this fix? If so, please let me know.
