ranch gun
« on: November 04, 2006, 10:51:13 PM »
I want to get a light weight rifle for carry in the field. I will use it as a truck gun and a ranch gun so it will get abused. I was thinking a stevens 200 in 223 or 22-250.  I want a bolt action not a semi. I also dont know what scope I want, probably a Bushnell of some type.  I have many varmit rifles that would work but they are too nice and too heavy to carry around.  The largest animal I would use it on would be a coyote or a dog. When I fix fence in bear country I carry a guide gun in 450 marlin. I like the idea of the 22-250 because I do not own one. I reload for the 223 so I have lots of brass and ammo. The 223 would be the smart way to go But the 22-250 is calling me. Any advise would really help my decision. Thanks guys for your help.

Unless it has already sold someone has a Remington Model 7 SS in .223 Remington listed on the Classifieds here. I can't think of a more perfect gun for the use you have mentioned. The stock is synthetic and metal SS, it's light, compact and they are known for their accuracy.
