Sight in
« on: October 20, 2006, 05:34:53 AM »
Greetings folks,
Been a while since I posted here, but I have a question you all could surely help me with.  I am going back to my traditional muzzleloader this year.  Never hunted with it before.  I have a T/C Hawkin, .45 caliber.  I intend to shoot patched roundballs ahead of 100 grains of FFg blackpowder.  My eyesight isnt what it used to be, and yes, I should get some specs to see better, but I just don't want to admit defeat just yet.  Problem I have is shooting it at a small round target at much more than 50 yards.  Can I sight it in at 25 yards shooting a bit high?  Would I be better off to sight it in at 50 yards?  I dont expect to take many/if any shots over say 75 yards.  Suggestions, ideas?  Thanks!

I sight in at 50 yards, but I see nothing wrong with shooting 25 yards, then just checking it at 50 yards. I always shoot a few rounds at 80 yards just to check where they hit.

I zero at 12 1/2 yards, I expect to be 1 - 2" high at 25 and 50 yards, and zero again at 75. The ball will be 2 - 3" low at 100. You might want to think about goin' to a peep rear sight, it'll sharpen up the front sight considerably, and you don't have to worry about alighnment. Just put the blade/bead on the target and squeeze!  ;)
