Sight in Followup Post
« on: October 23, 2006, 05:24:30 AM »
Good Morning,
I posted last week about distance to sight in.  I went out to the range again this weekend, and shot about 50 rounds.  It is a .45 cal T/C Hawkin that I built many years ago as a kit.  Problem I am having now is that at 50 yards, I can't get the iron sights to adjust enough to move the group to the center of the bull.  I thought about using a drift to move the front bead over some, but I think I will have to move it too far to get it to shoot better.  I am about 6 inches left at 50 yards.  Some suggested on my last post about changing to a peep sight.  Will that allow me more windage?  Is there anything else I can do to move that point of impact to the right, or will I need a gunsmith to help out?  Thanks for the help folks!

You can drift the front sight to the right and the back sight to the left. A little bit on the front and back sights will make a big change. If you go to a peep sight like the Lyman, it will give you a lot of windage adjustment.

I'd recommend driftin' the rear sight, move it in the direction you want the bullets to go. If you don't have enough adjustment then drift the front sight in the opposite direction. I really doubt you'll have to do that, a little bit goes a long way.  ;)

I will try drifting the front sight a bit.  The rear sight is mounted by two screws tapped into the barrel with no allowance for adjustment.  I may look into the peep sight as well.  Thanks folks!
