Aluminum boat buyer questions
« on: September 24, 2005, 02:08:45 PM »
I'm looking to buy an new aluminum boat 16-17.5' with a 90+ hp engine and a full windshield, but there are too many to chose from. Basically I want a sport/fishing boat with enough V for large inland lakes, but not a cheapy.

What would be the best brand/model under $17k? I've seen and adored the Crestliners, and Lunds, but they are over $20k.

Thanks

Aluminum boat buyer questions

Just last year I bought a brand new 16' Crestliner fishhawk with a 4 stroke Honda 50hp. It was just under $15,000 w/trailer, rigging, etc. For another $1,700 I could have gone with a 75hp. For $2,400 more, I could have gotten the 90hp. I chose to stay with the 50 because I could not see spending the extra cash just to go slightly faster. Also, the 90 Honda weighs 200 pounds more that the 50, so thats like having another person aboard.

I dont think you can get a new 17' Crestliner or a Lund with a 90hp and full windshield, trailer, etc for $17,000, but you are almost ballpark.

Maybe you can get a cheaper brand  16' boat with a cheaper 90hp or 75hp for $17ish, I dont know.

The one thing that you have in your favor is that you are boat shopping at the right time of year. Dealers are a bit more motivated right now than they are durring springtime.

Good luck
